We're excited to announce that we now support "URL downloading" for hub entries. That is, instead of uploading your game's zip file to the hub, you place the zip file on the web server of your choice and just put the URL to the file in your hub entry.

This has a couple of major benefits:

1) You aren't tied to the bandwidth of the BYOND server, so you can find the fastest web server you'd like to give your players the best possible experience downloading your game.

2) BYOND's servers no longer need to be devoted to serving these files, which means they should be much zippier when dealing with logins, forums, pagers, etc.

Given this, in two weeks we will change the hub to no longer accept uploads for games. For games you will be required to use another web server (though of course you can still create a hub entry for your game).

For the time being, existing game files will remain and will work. But to update your game or create a new game, you'll need to use another web server. Based on how many files remain on the server not updated, we'll decide later when/if to remove existing game files, and we'll announce that ahead of time.

Non-game entries (libraries, demos, and such) will still support the traditional method of uploading the zip to your hub entry, though you can choose to use a web server if you'd like.

So please start looking for a web server now and get your game moved over. You should place the URL to your hub entry in the "Download URL" field, which is just below the "Zip package" field.

You'll help improve BYOND and your player's download experience. Thanks!
